Research notes
Status is unclear. The program is run by the OU Esports & Co-Curricular Innovation dept (Student Affairs), with a competition coordinator, coaches and external recruiting, so it could count as varsity. But the program site says teams hold 'Competitive Club' status (since late fall 2018) under the OU Gaming Club and were being developed toward varsity endorsement for fall 2025, with no confirmation that happened. Listed as club per the brief. Scholarships began fall 2021 and were suspended and reworked from spring 2024 ($180k lifetime). Titles are from the Sooner Esports team menu (2025), which does not name a season, plus Marvel Rivals from the intercollegiate page.
