Sustainable Waste Innovation for a Future in Transition (SWIFT) Programme

Sustainable Waste Innovation for a Future in Transition (SWIFT) Programme – We’re thrilled to share the latest progress on our Sustainable Waste Innovation for a Future in Transition (SWIFT) programme journey!

Since we launched the call for applications in January, we’ve been overwhelmed by the incredible response from across Kenya, receiving 631 applications by the close of the call on February 29th.

A multidisciplinary team at KCIC has been hard at work, evaluating each application through a rigorous multi-phase process. From initial eligibility screenings to in-depth analyses against our scoring parameters, we’ve left no stone unturned in identifying the most promising ventures.

In the past weeks, we’ve reached out to applicants who have met our evaluation thresholds to hear directly from them and understand their businesses better. Following this, our team is conducting thorough due diligence for shortlisted candidates, ensuring the accuracy and integrity of their submissions.

Now, as we enter the final stages, we’re excited to announce that recommendations from our due diligence exercise will be harmonized this week. These recommendations will then undergo evaluation by an external panel comprised of key stakeholders within the waste management sector.
We’re committed to keeping all applicants informed, and within the next two weeks, every applicant to the SWIFT programme will receive an update on the status of their application.

But here’s the most thrilling part – we’re gearing up to welcome 55 exceptional ventures into the SWIFT programme for our inaugural cohort! Over the next 18 months, these innovative climate entrepreneurs will receive tailored support, whether through incubation or acceleration, as they drive positive change in the waste management landscape.

For us, SWIFT isn’t just a programme; it’s a catalyst for transformation. Thanks to the support of the
IKEA Foundation , we’re on a mission to revolutionize waste management in Kenya, paving the way for a circular, green, and inclusive economy.
