How to use Google Scholar to search the library’s resources?
Yes you can, as long as the library has a subscription to the resource you should be able to access it via Google Scholar.
- You will firstly need to set up University of Limerick Library as your institutional library in the settings in Google Scholar (Go to settings and then Library Links), and add “University of Limerick View it @ UL Library”
- Once you have set up University of Limerick as your library, the Option “View it @ UL Library” will appear when you do a search beside content the library subscribes to.
- Once you select this link you will be prompted to login
- Login with your valid UL computer account.
* Occasionally you may have to re-add the University of Limerick as your library in the setting in Google Scholar, particularly when using a mobile device in different locations.
* Sometimes there can be a problem with the indexing on Google Scholar which can take several days to resolve, the resolution of this is outside the library’s control.
How to Access eResources
How to Log in / Sign in
You must have a valid UL computer account to access the library’s electronic resources.
When you select an electronic resource from the library website either by using library search or the A-Z database list, you will be automatically prompted to login, if it does not log you in automatically.
- Students sign in with your UL student email address as your username, your password is the password you use to log onto a PC on campus or to log into microsoft office 365.
- Staff sign in with your UL staff email address as your username
- PhD and Masters students / Postgraduate Researchers must use their student email address studentnumber@studentmail.ul.ie as their username and the password linked to that student account.
First time you login you need to “accept” terms of use.
You may also be prompted for multifactor authentication (MFA)
How do I setup up a UL computer account?
If you do not have a valid computer account, please follow the instructions on how to set up a computer account, which are listed on the Information Technology Division (ITD) website.
- Sometimes users experience problems with their password when trying to login to the library electronic resources off campus even though their password is working for other off campus access systems. We recommend in this case that users reset their UL password, you can do this on campus while logging on to a computer or off campus by following instructions on the ITD webpages, alternatively you can email the Information Technology Student Support service.desk@ul.ie for assistance with changing your password.
Can I access articles through google scholar or through a general web search?
Yes, if the library subscribes to the content in question you should be able to view it from a Google Scholar search.
- You will firstly need to set up University of Limerick Library as your institutional library in the settings in google scholar (Go to settings and then Library Links), add “University of Limerick View it @ UL Library”.
- Once you have set up University of Limerick as your Library, you will then see the following text “View it @ UL Library” when you do a search, beside content the library subscribes to.
- Once you click on the text “View it @ UL Library” you will be prompted to login with your UL computer account details.
Browser Extension
Alternatively, you can install a browser extension that the library subscribes to, called LibKey Nomad which automatically provides instant links to full text content for articles subscribed to by the Library (or open access alternatives) as you do research on the web and come across scholarly content of interest. How do I access e-books?
Use the Library Search to find e-books, in most cases you will be prompted to sign in with your UL credentials when you try to access the full text. We recommend that you always sign in before doing a search, as this way you will ensure that you can get access to subscribed electronic resources
