The Guelph Arts Council (GAC) Call for Submisison for Jury Exhibition: Change – The Guelph Arts Council (GAC) is excited to announce an open call for submissions for a themed and juried exhibition. We invite artists to explore the broad and compelling theme of “Change,” which can be interpreted in various ways, including personal transformation, lifecycles, nature, the environment, cultural shifts, technological evolution, and history. We encourage artists to think broadly and deeply about the theme, considering how Change impacts various facets of life and society. This exhibition aims to create a thought-provoking dialogue among artists and viewers, emphasizing the transformative power of Change.

Submission Guidelines:

1. Eligibility: This is an open call to emerging and established artists in the Guelph and Wellington County area.
2. Medium: We are accepting submissions of 2D artworks only. This includes paintings, drawings, prints, and mixed media works.
3. Size Limitation: Artworks must be no larger than 24×24 inches, including the frame. Please ensure that your artwork has no more than a depth of 3 inches.
4. Hanging Requirements: All accepted artworks must have a wire or D-rings properly affixed to the back for easy hanging.
5. Artwork Limit: Each artist may submit only two pieces for consideration.
6. Submission Deadline: The deadline for submissions is July 19th at 11:59pm. Late submissions will not be accepted.

Selection Process:

Due to limited space, we may not be able to accommodate all submitted artworks for display. Our goal is to ensure that as many identities, practices, mediums and themes are represented as possible to demonstrate Guelph’s vast talent and creativity.  The selection process will involve a panel of jurors who will review each submission based on artistic merit, creativity, and adherence to the guidelines.

Notification: Selected artists will be notified via email by early August, 2024. If your artwork is chosen for display, you will receive further instructions regarding delivery and installation.

Submission Process: To submit your artwork for the GAC Juried Exhibition: Change, please follow these steps:

Prepare the following information in the form linked here:

1. • Your name
   • Contact information (email address)
   • Title of the artwork
   • Medium
   • Dimensions (including frame size)
   • Year
   • A clear and concise description of how the work relates to the theme “Change” (175 word limit)
2. Attach a high-quality image of your artwork, jpeg or pdf format. The image should accurately represent the piece you are submitting.

Important Notes:

1. By submitting your artwork, you grant Guelph Arts Council the right to use images of your artwork for promotional purposes related to the GAC Juried Exhibition: Change.
2. Artists are responsible for the transportation of their artwork to and from the artBar.
3. If artists are unable to retrieve their artwork within the specified time frames mentioned in their acceptance email following a successful application, they must make alternative arrangements.
