The American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists Lucy, Anarcha, and Betsey (LAB) Editorial Mentorship Program

The American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists is accepting applications for the inaugural Lucy, Anarcha, and Betsey (LAB) Editorial Mentorship Program, Obstetrics &
Gynecology.

This Mentorship Program is named in honor of three enslaved women whose bodies were used by Dr. J. Marion Sims for painful experimental attempts to repair vesicovaginal fistulas. Let us remember that each of us has the potential to cause harm; thus, we must be intentional to assure that we do not perpetuate injustices through our research, training, and clinical practice.

Overview

Obstetrics & Gynecology is the official publication of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG).

The goal of the journal is to promote excellence in the clinical practice of obstetrics and gynecology and closely related fields. The editorial team is seeking to identify and provide quality training to the next generation of authors, reviewers, and editorial leaders in the field of Obstetrics and Gynecology.

Selected participants will be invited to an in-person, one-day editorial and peer-review workshop with the Editors of Obstetrics & Gynecology at the ACOG Headquarters in Washington D.C. Mentees will receive longitudinal mentorship from Green Journal editors, current and former editorial board members, and peer review coaches. Academic career development opportunities over the course of the Mentorship Program include: virtual seminars (4), mentored peer reviews (4), editorial conference calls (2) and networking with peers, mentors, and editors.

Goals

Participation in this program will facilitate improved scientific writing, editing, and reviewing skills. At the conclusion of the program, participants will be able to:
