Tata Steel Foundation SAMVAAD Fellowship 2024 – Samvaad Fellowship seeks to extend Samvaad footprints across the nation through promoting tribal culture as ideated by the tribal communities themselves. It is an initiative to foster a youth peer group which drives positive change by encouraging community-based action research on tribal culture and heritage, propelled by a network of like-minded individuals.
The fellowship will encompass initiatives which are aligned towards conservation of any indigenous practice from tribal culture particularly on language, art, rituals and customs which are vulnerable to being lost resulting in an adverse impact the unique identity of the community.
Aspire – to nurture the age-old wisdom preserved by tribal culture. Delve deep into the traditions practiced by your own tribe and bring out an idea worth conserving.
Initiate- through community-based action research and documentation. Turn the ideas into tangible outcomes, revive and restore age-old cultural aspects of your tribe.
Impact – to create lasting change woven from threads of experience. Archive the tangible outcomes as a living record of the tribal heritage for future generations to discover, learn and take pride in.
CAUSES TAKEN UP BY SAMVAAD FELLOWS
- Documenting folktales of Gond tribal communities for producing children’s literature incorporating Gond paintings.
- Documenting the art of weapons and tools making of the Gadia Lohar tribe in Maharashtra.
- Conservation of traditional dance and songs of the Mavilan tribe – Gothra Smrithi.
- Documenting & promoting Khasi lullabies.
ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA
Applicant must belong to a Scheduled Tribe of India and must be between 18 to 40 years of age on the last date of application. The applicant should propose ideas which are directly associated with their own tribe. The proposal should mention tangible outcome that the applicant is looking to conserve.
