HumAngle Foundation Calls for Applications to the HumAngle Foundation Technology and Civic Impact Fellowship 2024 for Nigerians

HumAngle Foundation is pleased to announce the launch of the HumAngle Technology and Civic Impact Fellowship.

With the aim of providing cutting-edge technology and innovation training to members of the civic society and other actors in the space, the Fellowship will help selected professionals to leverage technology for actionable advocacy and accountability within public institutions.

The HumAngle Technology and Civic Impact Fellowship targets journalists, activists, and civil society members with a track record of excellence, drawn from Nigeria’s 6 geopolitical zones. It will follow a two-part model consisting of  a five-day  in-person training  in the FCT and a 3-month post-training period to allow the fellows practicalize their learnings. The training sessions will cover topics such as:

  • Policy Advocacy and Public accountability
  • Research and Fact checking for Social Impact
  • Maximising Artificial Intelligence in the Nigerian Context
  • Data for Civic Engagement
  • Techniques for Immersive Storytelling
  • Ethical Considerations in Leveraging Technology for Impact
  • Conflict Reporting and Humanitarian Response

Who can apply?

All journalists, activists and civil society actors who:

  • Are aged between 21 and 35
  • Are resident in Nigeria
  • Have at least 2 years of proven experience in advocacy, tech, research and data, impactful journalism, humanitarian activities and public policy.
  • Are employed in an organisation of repute or affiliated with one
  • Have an interest in leveraging technology for social impact

Benefits

Expectations of the Fellows

  • Commitment to a 5-day in-person training in the FCT and completing the 3-month programme.
  • All participants are required to engage in one innovative project leveraging learnings on technology .
  • Monthly reports on the project development and execution.
  • Fellows are expected to develop their projects based on their passions and skills, and build upon the Fellowship’s objectives.

About the Personal Project

The projects are expected to focus on issues around accountability, human rights, transparency and democracy in innovative ways that leverage technology. Projects may include components such as direct humanitarian service, advocacy campaigns within communities or through digital means, in-depth journalistic reports, step-down training, policy advocacy and research, or a combination of these strategies as well as similar ones.

The projects should hold public interest and involve the use of the HumAngle FOI platform. Projects should be innovative, actively leverage technology in its development or execution and have feasible SMART (specific, measurable, achievable, realistic and time-bound) goals for the 3-month duration of the Fellowship

The call for applications closes on the 12th of July, 2024.

The fellowship is expected to establish a long-term engagement between HumAngle and its alumni to ensure that the initiative’s objectives are sustained for the public good.
