Climate Tracker Climate Journalism Mentoring Program 2024

Climate Tracker Climate Journalism Mentoring Program 2024 – Climate Tracker is proud to present the sixth cycle of its Climate Journalism Mentoring Program, exclusive for Argentina, Mexico and Brazil, within the framework of the imminent G20. During this cycle we will do a few different things. Keep reading to find out all the details!

We challenge you to join this unique experience, to tell stories that need to be made visible and to explore various formats.

What to Expect

In this training initiative, each participant faces the challenge of creating three high-impact stories about the energy transition in Latin America. In these texts, the common challenges of three Latin American giants will be addressed: Argentina, Brazil and Mexico, seen as the largest emitting countries of greenhouse gases in the region.

Journalists will delve into key issues ranging from fossil fuels to renewable energy, examining public policies, energy projects, finances and socio-environmental conflicts, among other crucial aspects, coinciding with the G20 energy ministers’ meeting, which will take place on November 18 and 19 in Rio de Janeiro.

This initiative lasts four months in which participants will receive personalized editorial support from the Climate Tracker team. In addition, they will have an economic stimulus, mentoring from prominent leaders in the region and the opportunity to develop a network of regional contacts.

Phase 1

Participants will immerse themselves in an interesting live conversation (approximately 60 minutes) about the energy transition and climate change in their countries. They will be accompanied by local leaders, as well as former fellows from our mentoring program, who will share key advice on how to address these issues.

These are the dates of the conversations:

  • Argentina : Monday, May 13 at 6:00 p.m. (local time)
  • Mexico : Wednesday, May 15 at 3:00 p.m. (local time)
  • Brazil : Thursday, May 16 at 6:00 p.m. (local time).

At the end of each live conversation, participants will be challenged to send a journalistic story pitch to develop during the mentoring program.

The Climate Tracker team will select two proposals per country, to form an outstanding team of six journalists in Argentina, Mexico and Brazil.

Phase 2

The six selected journalists will immerse themselves in an exciting collective and practical learning experience between the months of June and August 2024. During this time, they will benefit from the following:

  • Total financial incentive of $900: Receive $300 for each story published, direct support for your talent and dedication!
  • Group training sessions: Explore vital topics such as the energy transition, the climate crisis and environmental journalism. Get ready to acquire knowledge that will boost your professional growth!
  • Personalized editorial support and tutoring adapted to your needs: With the support of our team, you will reach new levels of excellence and create a journalistic product of exceptional quality.
  • Opportunity to expand your network of contacts and journalistic portfolio through our regional media network: We want your work to be recognized!
