AZERBAIJAN: Heydar Aliyev – International Education Grant Programme for 2024-2025 – The call for applications for the “Heydar Aliyev – International Education Grant Programme” for 2024-2025 academic year 2025 is currently open.

The Government of the Republic of Azerbaijan is offering 100 scholarships to foreign students to study in Azerbaijani higher education institutions.

The programme’s objective is to enhance human capital in other countries and to help foreign nationals further their education in Azerbaijan’s higher education institutions.

Who can apply?

  • South African citizens;
  • Age requirements for applicants shall be as follows:
    • Undergraduate and general medicine programmes – must be below 35 years as of September 2024;
    • Graduate and medical residency programmes – must be below 40 years as of September 2024;
    • Doctoral programmes – must be below 45 years as of September 2024.

What the scholarship offers

  • Tuition fees;
  • An international economy class flight ticket to Baku, Azerbaijan (from the country of origin) and from Azerbaijan (to the country of origin respectively) once a year;
  • Monthly allowance of 800 AZN (470 USD)* for accommodation, daily expenses, educational materials (10 months each year, except July and August);
  • Medical insurance;
  • Visa & Registration fees.

Application Process

The Department of Higher Education and Training is the nominating authority for South African citizens who wish to apply for the Heydar Aliyev – International Education Grant Programme.

In the first phase of the application process, applicants must submit completed nomination form with the necessary documents to ScholarshipApplications@Dhet.gov.za.

The following documents are required for the Heydar Aliyev – International Education Grant Programme.

  • Copy of Certificates and Transcripts from prior High School or Higher Education Institution;
  • The applicant’s academic marks (GPA) of the previous degree(s) of study must not be less than 70%;
  • Copy of the medical certificate (including HIV/AIDS, Hepatitis B/C tests). The medical certificate has to be dated no more than 3 (three) months before the submission of application and must verify that the applicant is in good health for travel and study;
  • Copy of a valid passport that confirms the applicant’s identification information;
  • CV or Resume;
  • Proficiency in the language of study:
    • Applicants willing to study in English are required to have following scores:
      • for undergraduate programmes minimum IELTS 5 (TOEFL 40);
      • for postgraduate programmes minimum IELTS 5 (TOEFL 50);
      • the language of study of the previous education must be English.
  • Motivation letter;
  • Local and international awards (if available).

Please note: Applicants must submit documents in English and in PDF format, the documents must be certified and readable.

In the second phase of the application process, officially nominated applicants by the DHET will have access to apply through the “Study in Azerbaijan Centralized Admission Service (SIACAS) portal” from June 16 to July 1, 2024.

Applicants must select the “Heydar Aliyev” Grant programme after logging into the portal and apply.

Applicants can choose up to two degree programmes at different universities. Applicants experiencing technical difficulties can send an email to siacas.support@tsii.edu.az with a brief description and relevant screenshots.
