Climate Tracker Scholarships to cover the 16th United Nations Conference on Biodiversity (COP16) – Journalists residing in Bolivia, Brazil, Colombia, Costa Rica, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico, Panama and Peru can now apply for scholarships to cover the 16th United Nations Conference on Biodiversity (COP16), which is taking place will take place in Cali, Colombia, from October 21 to November 1, 2024.Â
In alliance with FES Transformación, we have 11 scholarships available for journalists who want to be part of a training process in which they will learn about biodiversity, environmental journalism and climate change science. Among this group of selected people, we will open six places to cover COP16 in person with all expenses paid and five to do it virtually, with financial remuneration.Â
This summit will take place at a fundamental moment for the planet. It is the first to be carried out after the approval of the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework , which is the main tool to fight for the protection of biodiversity. Furthermore, according to the Intergovernmental Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (IPBES), we are experiencing the worst biodiversity crisis in history, with more than one million species facing extinction.
For these and other reasons, it is essential that this COP16 has broad coverage in countries such as Bolivia, Brazil, Colombia, Costa Rica, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico, Panama and Peru.
If you want to join us in this work, you can apply for this scholarship and tell us if you prefer in-person or virtual coverage.Â
